Old Noble's plans revealed

Far-reaching proposals for transforming the old Noble's Hospital site in Douglas have been unveiled.

The scheme is in the very early stages and would cost £30 million pounds.

But if it went ahead, the central Douglas site would become home to a new school and the Central Community Health Centre.

Graham Bell reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

The old Noble's site working group has given Tynwald members a 'big picture' vision of the Westmoreland Road site's future use.

It wants a modern new school to replace Fairfield Junior and Ballacloan Infants, with the outdoor sporting facilities they both lack.

The DHSS wants to use its portion of the site for the Central Community Health Centre.

In the long term the Ambulance Service would take over the current fire station premises, with the favoured location for fire and rescue near the Grandstand on Glencrutchery Road.

Around half the cost of the scheme is already budgeted for in the current capital programme.

The plan will eventually go out to consulation.
