Local authority says raise will support street lighting schemes and its reserves
Onchan Commissioners will be increasing its rates for the next financial year by six percent.
It's been set at 457 pence in the pound and will cover loan repayments of £897,245 to fund street lighting schemes across the village.
These include the following roads in the Birch Hill estate: Beech Avenue, Beech Close, Birch Hill Close, Birch Hill Crescent, Briarfield Avenue, Clypse View, Cronk Avenue, Hawthorn Close, Hazel Close, Highfield Crescent, Highfield Close, Hillberry View, Hillcrest Grove, Hollydene Avenue, Ivydene Avenue, Laurel Avenue, Maple Avenue, Maple Close, Oak Close, Poplar Close, Rosedene Avenue, Rosedene Close, Seafield Crescent, Seafield Close, Sycamore Close, Sunnybank Avenue and Willow Close.
Lead Member for Finance Oliver Lockwood says the increase will also support its reserves and believes it's 'important' there is a 'sufficient' level to meet any 'unexpected expenditure' in the future.
He added: "The Board wishes to express its thanks to the Authority’s officers for managing the Authority’s finances soundly and hence making this outcome possible.”
Last year the commissioners had set its rate at 431p
