Onchan man denies possessing imitation firearm

Not guilty pleas also entered to criminal damage and affray charges

A man who’s alleged to have smashed a door with a baseball bat before shooting through it with an air gun has denied the charges against him.

Twenty-two-year-old Leroy Stephen McHarrie of Nursery Avenue in Onchan appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He denies possessing an imitation firearm, criminal damage and affray.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court a resident of First Avenue in Onchan dialled 999 just before 10pm on 17 November.

Mr McHarrie is alleged to have been banging on their front door, wearing a mask and hood as he demanded to get inside.

After they told him to go away, he’s said to have shattered glass panes in the door with the bat before shooting through the gap, hitting a man twice in the abdomen.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction, saying the trial would take place before the Court of General Gaol delivery.

Mr McHarrie was bailed in the sum of £500 with a condition he doesn’t contact witnesses.

He’ll appear again on 17 February.

Update: At a court hearing on 29 April no evidence was offered in relation to the charges of affray, criminal damage and possession of an imitation firearm and they were dismissed.
