Onchan man killed in accident

A 42 year-old Onchan man has been killed after an accident on the Mountain Road on Sunday evening.

It happened at around 6.30pm.

The man died when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a grey Nissan Micra, driven by a woman from Union Mills and a Blue Mini Cooper, driven by a visitor to the Island.

The driver of the Mini received serious injuries and is being treated at Nobles Hospital.

The Mountain Road was closed following the incident and re-opened at 8.30am this morning (Monday).

Inspector Derek Flint of the Northern neighbourhood Policing Team says with the start of TT 2009 days away, the tragedy is ‘a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities of road users and thoughts are with the families of those involved.’

Anyone who witnessed either the actions of a group of south-bound motorcyclists or north-bound cars on the Mountain around the time of the collision is asked to contact police headquarters on 631212 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111.
