Onchan ratepayers meeting

Onchan ratepayers are being given the opportunity to have their say about a recent rate increase.

The nine per cent rise will come into effect at the beginning of next month.

A requisition meeting is being held tomorrow evening, following an approach to the Captain of the Parish by a group of rate payers.

One of the MHKs for the area has been vocal in his opposition to the move, and questioned the Local Government Minister on the issue in the House of Keys this week.

David Quirk (pictured) says the people of Onchan have a right to know what's behind the above-inflation rise, although he accepts there could be many reasons why it was necessary (audio file attached):

The meeting is at 7.30pm tomorrow, in the Village Hall.
