One World Centre takes to the streets for Hurricane Idai appeal

1.7 million people affected in East Africa

Collections for the cyclone-hit Island-wide

On behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee, the One World Centre will be in towns and shops across the Island this weekend to raise money and awareness of the areas worst hit by the storm.

Just over 2 weeks ago, a number of east African countries were hit by winds of over 100mph which devastated Mozambique as well as parts of Malawi and Zimbabwe with widespread flooding.

700 people are thought to be dead with an estimated 1.7 million have been affected by the cyclone.

Volunteers will be collecting in Douglas, Ramsey, Port Erin, Castletown today (30 Mar) and tomorrow (31 Mar), with red buckets in all of the Island's Coop stores.
