'Open chequebook' fears over health review

MHK baffled by lack of financial restrictions

A review of cost pressures in the Island's health service effectively amounts to an ‘open chequebook’, an MHK fears.

The year-long study, backed by Tynwald, is to be carried out by independent experts to identify ways to deliver and afford a modern healthcare system.

The Department of Health and Social Care has gone more than £30 million over budget in the last three years.

However, Onchan member Julie Edge fears without financial restrictions in place, the review could spiral out of control.
