Oscar winning movie inspires MNH film night

You can relive the royal visit of July 1945 at the Manx Museum this evening (Friday).

Inspired by the Oscar winning film 'The King’s Speech', Manx National Heritage's annual film night will feature King George VI's visit to the Tynwald ceremony, accompanied by Queen Elizabeth.

Crowds flocked to the royal tour around the Island, including over 3,500 school children in the Villa Marina gardens.

The footage will also include extracts from the mines and railways of the Island, the arrival of Odin's Raven in 1979 and film of the Lady of Mann I leaving Douglas on her farewell voyage in summer 1971, prior to being broken up.

Doors open at 7pm, with the programme due to begin half an hour later.
