IOM Fire and Rescue Service is now urging people to make sure their properties are safe

The owner of a block of flats in Douglas has been fined £6,750 after it was found not to have a working fire alarm system.

The Island's fire service is now urging people to make sure their properties are safe.

Fire safety officers say they were made aware that the flats in question failed to meet a number of fire safety regulations.

Despite working with the owner to remedy the situation, the offences were deemed so severe it was brought to the matter of the courts.

The owner pleaded guilty to breaches of the Fire Precautions (Houses in Multiple Occupation and Flats) Regulations of 2016 and was fined.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service says it's available to offer advice about how to maintain safe standards.
