Owners of derelict properties in Ramsey urged to be entrepreneurial

Commissioners keen to keep attracting visitors to the town

Landlords of unsightly buildings in Ramsey are being urged to play their part in the town’s regeneration.

There are several empty buildings, close to the centre, that have fallen into disrepair.

Geoff Court is the lead member for parks and leisure for Ramsey Town Commissioners.

He says there is very little the commissioners can do about the problem:

Back in 1881 Ramsey Town Commissioners bought a 1200-acre tidal swamp for the purpose of creating a new attraction in the town.

Six years later Mooragh Pleasure Park was opened - at its heart was a spectacular 60 acre boating lake.

Today Mooragh Park continues to attract many visitors from both on and off the Island.

Mr Court told Manx Radio it is the jewel in the town's crown:
