Packet could be fined for water incident

MUA expects to recoup costs of repairs

Manx Utilities says it 'has not ruled out' prosecuting the Steam Packet for contaminating mains water supplies in the capital last month.

Homes and businesses were urged not to use their taps after seawater flooded pipelines during a routine cleaning operation on the Ben-my-Chree.

An investigation into the cause continues, but a temporary valve has been installed by the MUA to ensure the incident does not happen again in the meantime.

Steam Packet bosses came forward and apologised at the time.

Manx Utilities says it expects to recoup the cost of repairs from the firm - and added it has the power to impose a fine.
