Parents advised over salt intake

Parents should keep a close watch on the amount of salt their children are eating.

That's the message at the start of Salt Awareness Week - as a new survey shows many of us are consuming potentially dangerous levels of salt.

Many processed foods are laden with salt - but it also lurks in breakfast cereals and puddings.

Professor Graham MacGregor from consensus action on salt and health says eating too much salt in childhood can lead to long term health risks with high blood pressure (audio file attached):
