Park fire caused by electrical fault

New enclosure to be built

The fire which killed two young lemurs at the Curraghs Wildlife Park two weeks ago was caused by an electrical component failure.

Minister for the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, Geoffrey Boot, confirmed the cause of the blaze during a parliamentary hearing on Friday (11th May).

He said the two young animals were insured and the settlements could be used to build a new state-of-the-art enclosure.

Mr Boot expressed his great sadness at the accident, which he called a setback for the park, but added he was glad that something good would come from the tragedy.
