Patient travel to UK down almost 80%

Just over 2,000 return trips to hospitals made over last year

The number of patients travelling to the UK for medical appointments fell by almost 80 per cent over the last 12 months.

2,125 return trips to hospitals in the UK were made by Manx residents in the 2020-21 financial year.

That's down from 10,366 the year before.

The figure, published in this week's sitting of the House of Keys, excludes travel by air ambulance, sea passengers and patient escorts.

Government has underwritten flights to Manchester, Liverpool and Heathrow over the last year to ensure patients are able to travel off Island for treatment.
