Pay talks with nurses fail

Royal College of Nursing says demands aren't unreasonable

The latest round of pay talks between the Royal College of Nursing and the Manx government have failed to find agreement.

The RCN were asking for five percent but were only offered one percent by government.

Mary-Anne Parkinson, a Senior RCN Officer, says pay awards in the health service have been well below all the other disciplines claiming that whilst others have seen rises of up to nine percent - health has only had two point five.

She says nurse recruitment and retention on the Island has been significantly impacted as potential candidates are unsure about the situation regarding pay and pension.

She believes the increase their asking for isn't unreasonable since nurses haven't had an increase since 2015/16.

The matter will now move to arbitration, but this may not take place until early June.

In the meantime a survey across all RCN members in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man is being carried out to garner the views of members on pay.

If you're an affiliated nurse working on the Island you can make your views known via rcn.org.uk.

The survey closes on Sunday.
