70th anniversary of the event
Peel is gearing up for its 70th carnival today (6 August).
Roads around the Promenade and East Quay closed at 10am - with the grand parade scheduled to start at 2pm.
It's the first carnival for two years after an enforced break because of the Covid pandemic.
Organiser Ian Baker believes the secret to a successful event is simple:
