Peel man falsely claimed his car had been stolen after fleeing crash scene

Sentenced to 120 hours of community service

A Peel man fled the scene of a car crash before falsely claiming his car had been stolen during a burglary at his home.

Thirty-five-year-old Christopher Michael Moore of Ballacross Road was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse.

He’d previously pleaded guilty to wasting police time.

On 3 January he spoke to police and told them his house had been broken into and his car stolen.

The court heard officers spent 20 hours investigating before Moore’s lies unravelled.

Moore's advocate told the court his client had been going through a difficult period in his life but was working with the Drug and Alcohol Team to overcome his problems.

Moore was ordered to carry out 120 hours of community service as well as pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
