Peel man fined for fighting

Brandished knife, after bottle was thrown at him

A man from Peel has been fined, after admitting his part in a fight where he brandished a table knife.

Thirty-four-year-old Matthew Lambah, of Magher Breek, pleaded guilty to affray when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

The court heard he’d arranged to go to a woman’s home on 21 June to talk to a man he claimed had threatened his family.

But when he arrived, the man wielded two bottles of spirits as they clashed outside the home.

Prosecution advocate Barry Swain said after the man threw one of the bottles at him, Lambah went to his car parked nearby.

He returned with the blunt knife, which he’d taken from a cutlery set he had in the car.

The hearing was told the other man had been treated as a victim by police and hadn’t been charged over his role in the fight.

Lambah was fined £800 and also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
