Peel man has petition for redress

A Peel man with Parkinson's Disease is mounting a two-pronged attack on what he sees as the inadequecy of government payments to the chronically sick in the Isle of Man.

Former painter and decorator Rob Farrer will hand over a Petition for Redress of Grievance at Tynwald Hill today, calling for an increase in weekly incapacity benefit.

He will also be staging a peaceful protest, with banners and balloons, and is inviting people with chronic illnesses, and their carers, to support him: (audio clip)

Manx Radio is aware of two other petitions which are expected to be presented today. Rodger Gimbert is concerned about the flow of what he calls 'unnecessary personal data' from the Isle of Man to the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions.

And Graham Joughin is unhappy about the way the recent flouridation debate was handled by Isle of Man Newspapers.
