Peel MHK blames DoI for escalation of silt problems

Peel's MHK is adamant the Department of Infrastructure is to blame for the town's silt problems in its harbour.

The topic was breached in the House of Keys again yesterday, when DoI member Chris Thomas was quizzed about the work and the contract.

Temporarily storing the silt at Poortown has proved a highly contentious issue, and local residents were angered when it spilt onto roads while being transported to the site.

There have also been environmental concerns about heavy metals leaking from the specially constructed storage pond.

But, speaking after the sitting, Tim Crookall admitted to John Moss the work should have been done much sooner:
