Long-serving crew member honoured for 30 years of dedication to saving lives at sea

A long-serving Peel RNLI volunteer has been presented with a medal recognising 30 years of service to the lifesaving charity.

Mick Hewer - who joined Peel RNLI in the early 1990s after moving to the Isle of Man - began volunteering after hearing maroons launched to alert crews to rescues and visiting the boathouse to find out more.

During his time with the station, he has witnessed major changes in equipment and operations, serving initially with the Mersey-class all-weather lifeboat Ruby Clery and now continuing his role with the Shannon-class Frank and Brenda Winter, both ashore and afloat.

The medal was presented by Peel Lifeboat Operations Manager Allen Corlett, who thanked Mr Hewer for his long-standing commitment to saving lives at sea and his ongoing contribution to supporting and mentoring fellow crew members.
