Peel Road roadworks to finish soon

The Department of Infrastructure says the Peel Road roadworks should be finished by the middle of next month.

In a written reply to a question in the House of Keys this morning, Infrastructure Minister Laurence Skelly confirmed the work was going faster than planned.

He told North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson the main body of work should be completed by March 21 – almost three months ahead of schedule.

In his reply, Mr Skelly said the road should be fully complete and open by the middle of April.

Mr Skelly says after the main sub-contractor finishes in nine days time, the department will put a final coat of asphalt on the road and paint road markings.

However, the planned cycle lane may have to wait a little longer because its coloured surface needs to be applied in warm and dry conditions.

Mr Skelly says quality control problems had affected around five per cent of the road but it would take just one week to put right – and wouldn’t cost the government any extra cash.

But he said even that work shouldn’t affect the sub-contractor’s early completion date of March 21.
