Peel set for 'state-of-the-art' swing park

Local authority to invest £350,000

Peel Commissioners are pushing for the creation of state-of-the-art swing park for youngsters in the town.

Plans have been lodged by the local authority for a children’s play area next to the Western Swimming Pool on Derby Road.

The swing park will cost the local authority around £350,000 and will include changes to parking, road layout and alterations to the nearby roundabout.

The design will include climbing frames based on landmarks such as Peel Castle and the TT course.

Commissioner Ian Davison says Peel has lacked adequate play facilities for the younger generation, and ratepayers have pushed for something to be done.

He hopes work on the park will begin as soon as possible, once planning permission has been granted.

Mr Davison explained to Local Democracy Reporter Ewan Gawne why the local authority chose to invest in the young people of Peel.
