Kennaugh wades into cycling sexism row

Manx star apologises after Tweets

Manx cycling star Peter Kennaugh has apologised after stepping into the British Cycling sexism row on Twitter.

Earlier today, Olympic cyclist Emma Pooley accused the sport’s governing body and Sky of setting up a road team for men for the Tour de France, without any plan to create a women’s team for the Giro D’Italia.

Kennaugh then took to Twitter to ask her why Sky would support a race he claimed nobody in the UK had any idea about – and then told her to stop being self-centred.

He suspended his account on the social networking site temporarily this afternoon after users reacted angrily to his comments.

He later tweeted: “I've re-read the tweet i deleted and realise i came across like a total idiot im sorry to anyone i may have offended in how they were worded”
