Pinewood reports soaring profits

Star Wars and James Bond lift earnings

Pinewood Studios, part-owned by the Manx government, says it’s pre-tax profits rose by more than 50 per cent over the past year.

Yesterday, the group said for the year to the end of March its profits rose from £5 million to £7.8 million and revenues rose to £83.2 million from £75 million the previous year.

The company declared a final dividend of 3.2 pence – the Isle of Man owns more than two million shares.

Earlier this year Treasury Minister Eddie Teare revealed the government had made more than £11 million selling 60 per cent of its stake.

Yesterday, Pinewood said Star Wars and James Bond films had boosted its business, and the fall in the pound after the Brexit vote could mean more films from America in the future.
