Plan to reduce number of school suspensions

Minister hopes policy review will tackle issue

The education minister hopes a review of the schools suspension policy will result in fewer students missing school days.

Graham Cregeen confirmed in this week's sitting of the House of Keys that schools must provide the means and resources for pupils to continue learning during a suspension.

The minister admitted he's concerned by the number of children missing time from their education.

Although the number of suspensions has fallen over the last year, Mr Cregeen believes the department can still do better:
