Planning changes aim to cut number of empty shops

New regulations make it easier to change use of property

It will be easier for shops to change use in the new year.

The scheme will be rolled out in Douglas, Onchan, Castletown, Peel, Port Erin and Ramsey.

Shop owners will no longer have to go through the full planning application process if the change of use is within a similar group.

Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas hopes it will lead to fewer empty units:
