Planning system failing public - Malarkey

An member of the House of Keys, enlisted to help a group of residents after a controversial planning decision, says the system is failing the public.

Heritage Homes was granted permission at appeal to build 52 apartments on the site of the former Keigs building in Douglas, despite the fact an inspector hearing the matter had already considered an earlier application for the site.

The plans had been initially turned down but the decision was overturned after the inspector's recommendations.

South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey (pictured) says the group subsequently lodged a petition of doleance which has now been thrown out (audio file attached):

Sara Hackman is one of four candidates contesting tomorrow's local authority election in St George’s Ward, Douglas.

The others are Glenda Corkish, Dot Pitts and Stephen Pitts.
