Plans for new Steam Packet vessel 'progressing well'

'Manxman' to replace Ben-my-Chree in 2023

Plans for the new Steam Packet vessel's design are reportedly 'progressing well'.

The new ship, the Manxman, is set to replace the Ben-my-Chree in 2023.

A team are currently working on the design of both the external and internal features - a process described as vital, and the longest of the project.

Over the next year a detailed 3D design of the vessel will be made, as well as construction drawings to allow it to be built.

Interior design and layouts will then be finalised, and vessel equipment and machinery agreed.

The Manxman will be built at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea.

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: 'We are pleased with how plans are progressing and that, despite the pandemic, we have largely been able to stay on schedule and continue to make significant progress.'

'It is a large-scale project which naturally takes time and many hours of meticulous planning, however we are excited to move forward with the detailed design of Manxman.'

Details of the project, broken down into two 'phases' can be found at the Steam Packet's blog.
