Plans in for new river wall to reduce Laxey flood risk

New structure would be higher than previous defences

Plans for further work to reduce the risk of future flooding on Glen Road in Laxey have been submitted.

The Department of Infrastructure is seeking planning permission for a new 18-metre stretch of Manx Stone wall, higher than the previous structure.

It comes after the area was hit by floods in October 2019, when 62 Laxey properties, 51 of which were on Glen Road, were damaged when the river's wall was breached.

A debris catcher has already been installed in the river and flood defence work got underway in August to improve protection in the area.
