Police called after two cars found on fire

Police and fire services were called out at 1.15 this morning after reports that two cars were on fire at Port St Mary Golf Club.

One of the cars. a green Peugeot 306, had rolled off the edge of the cliffs and was found burnt out below Perwick Bay estate. The second, a red Citroen Saxo, was located still alight, about 200 metres down the course from Perwick Bay.

The Peugeot 306 has been reported as stolen, while police are trying to trace the owner of the other vehicle.

Sergeant Paul Kemp from Castletown police says the Fire service brought the fires under control fairly quickly.

An extensive search was carried out by the Police, Fire Brigade and Coastguard for injured parties but no-one was found.

It's believed that the two fires are linked and they are being regarded as suspicious. Sergeant Kemp says it's likely the person or persons who caused the fires could well have suffered burns or other injuries and their clothing would probably smell heavily of smoke.

Officers are asking that anyone who noticed any poor driving or suspicious activity around 1:15am in the Port St Mary area get in touch on the police headquarters number, 631 212.
