Police called in to Abbotswood investigation

Constabulary will consider if 'potential offences' were committed

The independent investigator leading a probe into the deadly outbreak of coronavirus at Abbotswood nursing home has referred its findings to the police.

Expol has recommended the constabulary considers if 'potential offences' were committed.

Twenty residents died after contracting the virus, a number which accounts for more than 80 per cent of the Island's Covid-19 death toll.

It led to government commissioning Expol to investigate events at Abbotswood.

The home has since closed.

Investigations led by the Department of Health and Social Care, which took over the Ballasalla home in April, have also been halted.

A statement released on Thursday evening says 'once the constabulary has considered the position, contact will be made with those directly involved.'

No further comment will be made for now: more information on the next steps will reportedly be released in due course.
