Should the police have new powers?
That’s the question which will be posed at Ramsey Town Hall this evening (Tuesday) at the latest Police Consultative Forum meeting.
The forum is an independent body of lay people which scrutinises the work of the Manx force and tonight Home Affairs chiefs will give a presentation on a new Criminal Justice bill and take questions from the floor.
Proposals include new powers for detaining children as young as 10 in serious criminal investigations, as well as the power to arrest on suspicion an offence has been committed.
Tonight’s meeting starts at 7.30pm.
There’s meetings at the same time at Onchan Parish Hall tomorrow and at Castletown Civic Centre on Thursday evening.
