Chief constable says 2021 decision 'saddened' him
Police officers will be able to attend today’s Pride festival after being blocked from joining in with celebrations in 2021.
The chief constable says the decision by the organising committee last year, to prevent officers from participating, ‘saddened’ him.
Gary Roberts says the people it affected were mainly younger gay, lesbian and bi members of the Isle of Man Constabulary – most of whom had not been born when relationships were strained.
Last week he penned a five-page letter to the committee apologising for the ways in which laws banning homosexuality were sometimes enforced in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

Pride will take place at the Villa Marina today, from midday to midnight, it is free of charge to attend.
