Restaurant worker jailed for six years and eight months

Police have praised the ‘continued courage’ shown by the teenage victim of a sex offender who was jailed this week.

Mohammed Haroon Jabbar, formerly of Duke Street in Douglas, was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison after admitting four offences.

The 43-year-old restaurant worker had followed the ‘vulnerable’ 13-year-old through the city centre on the evening of 28 July last year before assaulting her.

The Isle of Man Constabulary says Jabbar made the decision that night not to assist the girl but instead ‘take advantage’ of the situation.

Detective Inspector Nick Haxby, from the Protecting Vulnerable People Investigation Team, said: "It would have been clear to the defendant that the young female was in a vulnerable position.

"The courage the victim has shown in firstly reporting this matter to the police, but also the continued courage she has shown during the court process, is commendable.

"I am hoping, with the right support which is in place, that the sentencing will assist and provide some level of closure for her and her family.”

The Isle of Man Constabulary has refused to release the police photograph of Mohammed Jabbar.
