Police station could be replaced

Police in Peel could be moving to a new headquarters building.

The Department of Home Affairs is applying for planning approval to convert the town's Medical Centre into a police station.

The Western Neighbourhood Policing Team is currently based at the former courthouse, on the corner of Derby Road and Albany Road.

Peel Medical Centre will be moving in March to newly-built premises next to the Corrin Memorial Home.

Head of Neighbourhood Policing in the area Superintendent Paul Cubbon says it's a perfect opportunity to try and provide a better working environment in which to maintain community safety in Peel and the west of the Island.

He says the design of the whole courthouse building is not conducive to modern policing and the medical centre would offer better parking facilities and public access.
