Police to lead Hector Duff's funeral cortège

Public can pay respects along procession route

The Island's Road Policing Unit is to lead Hector Duff's funeral cortège this week.

The Manx veteran, and OBE, passed away last Monday at the age of 101.

Mr Duff joined the Isle of Man Constabulary when he returned to the Island after serving in the Second World War.

A private ceremony is to be held at St Peters Church in Onchan at 1pm on Thursday (10 Dec).

Beforehand, the procession will travel from Ballachurry Avenue to St Peters, and then on from the church to Douglas Crematorium after the ceremony, at around 1:45pm.

Whilst parking at St Peters is strictly reserved for those attending the service, those wishing to pay their respects to Mr Duff can do so by lining the streets.

The Road's Policing Unit have shared the following timings:

• 12:50pm funeral cortège leaves Ballachurry Avenue in Onchan.
• Travel down Wybourn Drive, turning left onto Governors Road.
• Through Main Road Onchan turning right into Church Road, Onchan.
• Arrive at Church 12:58pm.

Following the conclusion of the service at approximately 1:45pm Mr Duff will be taken to Douglas Borough Crematorium. The route is as follows:

• From Church Road, turn left onto Groudle Road.
• Turn left into Windermere Drive and proceed to Whitebridge Road.
• Turn left at Whitebridge Road and proceed through Main Road Onchan.
• Governors Road onto Glencrutchery Road.
• Arrive at Douglas Borough Crematorium.

Later, at 3pm, a celebration of Hector Duff's life is to be held at the Villa Marina in Douglas.
