Political support grows to save health deal

The Speaker of the House of Keys says he’s heartened by the response of political colleagues throughout Britain and Ireland in a bid to save the Reciprocal Health Agreement.

The UK government’s decision to cancel the agreement means that, from April, Island residents will have to pay for non-emergency treatment when they visit the UK or get insurance.

Earlier this week, the British Irish Parliamentary Assembly called for that move to be put on hold and for discussions between all devolved governments.

However, Steve Rodan says while the support is encouraging, it’s now at the 11th hour.
