Politicians urged not to brand NHS 'no longer affordable'

GP and treasury minister says private healthcare isn't the only option

An outgoing MHK is urging politicians to avoid labelling NHS healthcare as no longer affordable.

Alex Allinson, who's also a GP, has represented Ramsey for the last 10 years, but isn't standing in this year's General Election.

During his time as Treasury Minister, Dr Allinson brought forward proposals for an NHS Levy to increase funding for the health service, but these weren't progressed.

Government's budget for healthcare has increased by more than £180million over the last five years. At the end of the last administration, the budget for the health department was £232million; this year the budget for healthcare is £412million

Despite this, Dr Allinson says private healthcare isn't the only option:
