MHK calls for DNA profiling

A Garff MHK is pursuing plans to DNA profile canine pets on the Isle of Man in a bid to tackle dog fouling.

Martyn Perkins says the public are sick of dog mess dirtying the streets and with Island's Biosphere status in mind, the issue needs to be dealt with.

He says DNA profiling has been successful in other small jurisdictions and will help trace any leavings to the source so lazy owners can be held to account.

The Department of Environment Food and Agriculture will be holding a full consultation before the plans get the green light.
