Post Office alerted police about suspicious package
A Port Erin man accused of having almost a quarter of a kilogramme of cocaine sent to him through the post has been remanded in custody.
Thirty-three-year-old Anthony John Richard Lyons of the Edremony Estate appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse via live videolink from the Isle of Man Prison.
He denies being concerned in producing cocaine to the Isle of Man as well as possessing the class A drug with intent to supply it.
The court heard Post Office workers alerted police about a suspicious package on 13 January.
Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon said the parcel was marked for delivery to Mr Lyons’ home, but addressed to a Mr Mitchell.
It was delivered to his door and five minutes after he picked it up from his doorstep, police raided the building.
Inside the parcel was 245 grammes of cocaine with a street value of £24,500 – Lyons said he hadn’t known anything about the shipment.
A bail application was refused and he was remanded in custody to appear again on 16 February.
