Minister defends UK security measures

The Home Affairs Minister has defended the use of more stringent security checks at Manx-bound ferry terminals.

It's after passengers were warned they may have to produce identification for officers at Heysham Port in the wake of the Manchester Arena bombing last month.

Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson raised the issue in Tynwald this morning, along with concerns that residents and visitors could have been turned away due to the heightened security measures.

Bill Malarkey replied that he was 'not aware' of anyone being refused travel, and that officers did have the legal powers to request documentation under anti-terror laws:
