Chair Jean Teare says local authorities should have a 'social conscience'

After a social media campaign encouraging residents to seek support during the festive period, Port St Mary Commissioners says it's seen a reduction in its rent arrears.

Chair Jean Teare says the campaign was designed to signpost people to different support agencies and charities if they felt they had been 'overstretched' during winter.

The commissioners confirmed its arrears normally rise between £5,000 and £6,000 - but its latest figures believe it was roughly half of that.

It also helped reduce rate arrears by 11 percent.

Mrs Teare believes local authorities should have a 'social conscience' when looking after people who may be struggling.
