Postal strike to go into a second day

Further talks expected in January

There will be a second day of strike action tomorrow by Isle of Man Post Office staff who are members of the Communication Workers' Union.

The board has confirmed further talks with the union today have broken down.

Chief Executive Simon Kneen says despite the board putting forward an 'enhanced proposal' for the CWU to consider, it has said it requires more time to formulate a formal response and counter proposals. Terry Pullinger from the CWU had to return to the UK last night (Thurs), effectively bringing further negotiations to a halt for the time being.

The walkout today (Fri 14th), therefore goes ahead as planned.

It's understood the union's deputy general secretary (postal), Terry Pullinger, will return to the Island in January for more talks, so there will be no further strikes in the run-up to Christmas, once the current action has taken place.
