Posthumous award of Reih Bleeaney Vanannan

Bernard Caine and John Kennaugh honoured

This year's Reih Bleeaney Vanannan has been awarded posthumously to two recipients.

Bernard Caine and John Kennaugh have received the Manx cultural award for 2016 - the first time it's been given jointly.

It recognises individuals or groups who have made the  greatest contribution to the Island's cultural heritage by working to promote and support anything from Manx language, literature and art to music, history or the environment.

The award was presented by Rushen MHK Phil Gawne who said the pair were linked by a love of the Island, of singing and of the importance of community

Each winner's family received £500 to go to a charity of their choice. Bernard's wife Joan chose to donate money to the Manx Branch of the Celtic Congress, whilst Mrs Kennaugh asked for the money to be donated to the Manx Music Festival.
