President to attend Diamond Jubilee ceremony

The President of Tynwald Clare Christian will represent the Isle of Man at Westminster next week, when both houses of parliament gather to honour the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee.

Addresses will be presented to Her Majesty and a new stained glass window depicting the royal coat of arms will be unveiled.

Clare Christian MLC says it's an honour to be invited to the ceremony in the Palace of Westminster on Tuesday to represent Tywnald.

Lord Speaker of the House of Lords, Baroness D'Souza, and Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, will present addresses to the Queen to mark her 60 year reign. Her Majesty will then reply.

The stained glass window is a gift to Her Majesty from parliamentarians from both houses and is to be installed in the north window of Westminster Hall.

Madam President says the visit will be an opportunity to join with fellow parliamentarians to demonstrate the profound respect held for the Queen, who has given 60 years of selfless duty and service.
