Primary school could host GPs surgeries

It's being described as a 'unique community solution', but it's up to the people of Kirk Michael to decide if it's what they want.

The departments of health and education have come up with the idea of putting a doctors' surgery in the village primary school.

Under the present arrangements, GPs from Ramsey hold surgeries at the Cannan Court sheltered housing complex, but that was only ever meant to be a temporary solution, mainly because there isn't enough space there.

The primary school potentially does have the room, and part of it could be sectioned off from the rest of the building giving doctors a separate entrance, waiting and consulting rooms and toilets. It's already been decided that if the proposal is implemented there would be no surgeries at the beginning or end of the school day, to avoid possible congestion.

Michael Commissioners are going to find out how people in the village feel about the idea, and report back to the two government departments by the end of this month (March).

The plans are available for inspection at the commissioners' office and they will also be on display during parents' evenings at the school next week.
