Probation for cannabis grower

A man who grew cannabis out of curiosity has been placed on probation for two years by High Bailiff Michael Moyle.

Twenty-seven year-old Lee Alan James Hughes of Rheast Barrule, Castletown, admitted drugs offences when he appeared in court in Douglas.

He was arrested at home at 7.45am on July 18 when police discovered a small piece of cannabis resin, almost 41 grammes of cannabis bush, worth more than £150, and a single cannabis plant.

His advocate said he had made no serious attempt to cultivate the plant and had reduced his cannabis intake.

Hughes must cooperate with assessments and undertake treatment during his probation.
