'Profound desperation' in responses to police survey

Of the 230 officers represented by the federation, 144 responded

Policing on the Isle of Man will soon reach crisis point without immediate intervention to improve pay and conditions for officers.

That's from the Police Federation Isle of Man, which has carried out an officer satisfaction survey.

Of the 230 officers represented by the federation, 144 responded.

80% said they disagree or strongly disagree that they are suitably paid, while 89% said they disagree or strongly disagree that the Isle of Man Constabulary offers good pay and conditions.

There has long been discussion over police pay.

In his latest annual report Chief Constable Gary Roberts warned that unless salaries were addressed a ‘crisis may emerge’.

The Department of Home Affairs says it welcomes the results of the survey.

The Police Federation, in publishing the results, called for the Chief Minister, Home Affairs Minister and Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Home Affairs to come to the table for negotiations on pay and conditions.
