Programme aims for 'tangible results'

CM promises to deliver with masterplan

The chief minister has launched the government's roadmap for the next five years - promising progress will be 'closely monitored'.

The Programme for Government 2016-2017 sets out the Council of Ministers' three overarching, long-term aims.

They are to create an Island of 'enterprise and opportunity' with an 'inclusive and caring' society, overseen by a 'financially responsible government'.

The programme will be debated in Tynwald next week, and, if approved, will likely trigger a stream of new policies.

Reviewing local government and the rating system, sea services and the pensions deficit are among recurring themes.

And in the pipeline, new initiatives are presented in areas from pre-school education to telecommunications.

Howard Quayle says the commitments aim to produce 'tangible results'.
